Is Queen Victoria Market the oldest market in Melbourne?

Melbourne

No. Did you know there were the Eastern Market on a block on the corner of Bourke and Exhibition Street and the Western Market on a block on the corner of William and Collins Street. Both operated between the 1840s to 1960s. The construction of the Queen Victoria Market first started in 1868, and at the time there are also South Melbourne Market and Prahran Market in operation.

However, the Queen Victoria Market is the largest and most intact market that is surviving from the 19th century of markets in the city of Melbourne. Also the largest open air market (17 acres) in the Southern Hemisphere.
