It had been hard to find hand sanitizes on any shelves, or if you did found any, some prices are just shocking. Here I have included a few different formulas for homemade hand sanitizes, they are easy to make at home, but you have to be-careful when handle and storing the high alcohol content as they are highly flammable and can causes serious eye irritation.
The first 2 formulas are from WHO, I have adjusted their volume to 1L, so it easier for you as most bottle comes in by liters. These 2 formulas are more liquid, the last formula will more to a gel form.
Formula 1 (from WHO) 80% Alcohol
Ethanol 96% - 1L (this might be hard to buy in Australia)
Hydrogen peroxide 3% - 50 ml
Glycerol 98% - 17.4 ml
Sterile distilled or boiled cold water 133 ml
Formula 2 (from WHO) 75% Alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol 99.8% - 1L (this can be find at cleaning supplier)
Hydrogen peroxide 3% - 55 ml
Glycerol 98% - 19 ml
Sterile distilled or boiled cold water - 256 ml
Formula 3 (internet recipe) 75% Alcohol
Isopropyl alcohol 99.8% - 1L (this can be find at cleaning supplier)
Aloe vera gel - 330ml
Essential oil - 10 drop
The making is simply mixing in each ingredients and bottle them. You can mix them in a tub, large bottle etc. Just remember to sanitize all you equipment first. WHO recommend sitting the finish product for 72 hours before using them to kill off any spore remaining. Also some might not be able to get 100% alcohol so the ratio can be change. the idea is to have 70%+ alcohol so that it can kill most bacteria. The aloe vera gel and glycerol is there so your hand doesn't get dry out by the alcohol.
